The Automotive Industry in Pakistan has experienced phenomenal growth in the recent past and is expected to deliver even more growth in the future.
Paint is one of the most important and complex components of automotive manufacturing.
ICI Industrial Coatings is one of the three divisions of ICI Pakistan Paints Business which has been able to deliver to the standards and requirements of the automotive industry and enjoys a significant share as the leading automotive manufacturers.
ICI has been associated with automotive assembly operations in Pakistan from the earliest days when the forerunner of Pak Suzuki Motor Company namely Awami Autos was assembling Suzuki commercial vehicles in a plant located at West Wharf, Karachi. Over the years, many improvements evolved progressively and ICI was very much part of this progress by providing customised products and services tailored to the changing needs.
As the passenger car assembly evolved in Pakistan, goal posts shifted in terms of quality of finish, gloss levels, colour range, etc. The customer is more discerning and demanded more exacting standards.
This required new technology hitherto not available in Pakistan. ICI signed up licenses with Nihon Parkerizing and Kansai Paints of Japan, the leading Pre-treatment Chemicals and Automotive paint manufacturers of the world respectively.
This enabled ICI to supply paint and pre-treatment products as per Japanese specifications.
ICI chemists and operation employees visited principles located in Japan to acquire necessary training in formulation, manufacture, application and on-line technical service.
The regular visits by Japanese professionals allow ICI customers to get the latest and world-class technical service in Pakistan.
The techno-commercial sales force of ICI is well equipped to provide complete technical assistance, on-line troubleshooting, and guidance in system selection.
As a part of Automotive Industry's deletion programme of imported components for assembly and manufacturing, ICI has been taking the initiative of localising the existing paints and coatings and also to develop in-house expertise in world-wide cutting edge technologies.
ICI, which has a strong focus on Safety, Health and Environment driven by its corporate policies, was also instrumental in introducing Lead free cathodic electrocoat and electrostatic painting in the industry.
ICI and the Automotive Industry of Pakistan have operated as partners in bringing about improvement in systems, processes and development initiatives and ICI Industrial Coatings has the resources and commitment to cater to the growing Automotive Industry of Pakistan efficiently.
Today, ICI Pakistan's five businesses; Polyester, Soda Ash, Paints, Chemicals and Life Sciences manufacture and sell a range of industrial and consumer products.
These include, Polyester Staple Fibres, POY Chips, Light and Dense Soda Ash, Sodium Bicarbonate, Paints Decorative, Refinish and Industrial, Uniqema Specialty Chemicals, Polyurethanes and Adhesives and arranges manufacture on a toll basis of Pharmaceutical and Animal Health products.
In addition it markets Seeds and trades in various specialised chemicals for use in industries in Pakistan.
