Austria trying to expand trade ties with Pakistan: exhibition at Karachi in October
"Austria is considering to expand trade ties with Pakistan and in this context a trade delegation from Austria will be visiting Pakistan early in October this year," said Nikolaus Seiwald, Commercial Counsellor of Austria for Pakistan stationed in UAE.
Addressing members of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), he said that an Austrian trade exhibition is being organised in Karachi on October 5-6, 2004, and around 200 Austrian entrepreneurs are expected to participate in the said trade fair.
Seiwaid also briefed the members on visa procedure and possibilities of expanding trade between the two countries through joint ventures and technical collaborations.
Hamid Nisar, Vice President, KCCI, welcomed the Austrian Commercial Counsellor, and apprised him on the present economic developments and activities taking place in the country.
Hamid appreciated the decision to hold the exhibition and extended full support and co-operation on behalf of KCCI.
He pointed out the pressing issue of imposition of anti-dumping duty imposed by European Union (EU) on Pakistan's bed linen, and requested the Austrian Commercial Counsellor to convey Pakistan's concern in the matter as the said imposition of duty is in contrast with WTO regime which aims to removing all trade barriers.
He expressed his expectation of favourable support from Austrian government in such matters.
Nasser Hyatt Maggo, a former President and member, Managing Committee, KCCI, suggested that the Austrian consulate or Commercial Counsellor's office in Karachi should be reopened to facilitate the local business community.
The Austrian Commercial Counsellor while explaining the reasons for closure agreed to the suggestion and said that the same might be considered in near future.
