The injury suffered by Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly, was not serious and hopefully he should be fit for the third Test against Pakistan, a specialist doctor, who examined him said on Friday.
"Yes, I examined Ganguly on Thursday evening at his home immediately after he arrived and from the preliminary investigation it appears that the injury is not serious," Dr Kalyan Mukherjee, a leading orthopaedic, said.
He said that the treatment would start after the Indian skipper underwent MRI scan of the affected part, blood tests and X-ray on Friday afternoon.
"If my initial understanding of Ganguly's injury matches the test reports then he should take only a few days to recover fully to rejoin the team in Pakistan for the third and final Test beginning at Rawalpindi on April 13," he said.
Dr Mukherjee also said that there seemed to be no bone injury with only the ligament affected which he described in medical terms as, 'lumbosacral strain'. He said that it was not necessary for Ganguly to be admitted to a nursing home.
The specialist said that there was 80 per cent chance of Ganguly recovering fully before the third Test, "but any definite conclusion to be drawn would be only after 48 hours."
This should come as a major boost to the Indian skipper who has already expressed his keenness to rejoin the team in Rawalpindi.
