Around five thousand boy scouts from across the country will participate in the week-long 13th National Scouts Jamboree to be held in Sumbol Park Garden Avenue, Islamabad from April 16.
The event would be held under the aegis of the Pakistan Boy Scouts Association (PBSA).
Theme of the Jamboree would be: "Scouting for the Global peace," a PBSA official said here on Tuesday. As many as 1,000 scouts and leaders from Sindh and 1,500 from Punjab would participate.
The strength of the other squads would be: NWFP (1,000), Balochistan (500), Islamabad (400), AJK (500), PIA (100), Northern Areas (100) and Pakistan Railways (25 Service Rovers).
Federal Education Minister and Chief Scout Commissioner of PBSA, Zobaida Jalal, will be the Jamboree chief Joint Secretary Ministry of Education, Sarfraz Ahmed Syed, will be her deputy.
Commander Aftab Asghar Qureshi, will be the Jamboree Programme Director while Qazi Zahoor-ul-Hassan is named as Jamboree Secretary. The first Jamboree was held in Karachi's Chota Malir area in the year 1952 while the 12th National and Second South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (Saarc) Jamboree was held in Quetta in 1994.
The main features of the 13th National Scouts Jamboree will be the friendship games, youth forum, display of capabilities, hiking/ trekking, adventure trail, peace songs, quiz competition, tree plantation, cultural shows, grand camp fire.
The PBSA official said that the main objective of the Jamboree is to foster understanding and friendship among the scouts coming from various areas of the country, exchange of views, and understanding of each other's culture.
They are also required to carry forward the message of friendship and peace, the official said.
