Khyber Steam Safari, an adventure time ride through the legendary Khyber Pass by antiquated steam mechanism lost the whole winter tourism season due to the break down of a bridge in Khyber Agency.
Hundreds of foreign and domestic tourists have contacted the Sehrai Travels, the tour operator of the venture. But, due to the repairing of the bridge the trips were not materialised.
Talking to Business Recorder, Zahoor Ahmad Durrani, the operator of the antiquated steam safari, said that during March, they had lost a troupe of 25 Japanese, who were interested in visiting the historic Khyber Pass and another group of foreign tourists from the Islamabad based embassies of Britain, United States, Norway, Switzerland and Japan. But, the visits of both groups fell victim to the delay of Pakistan Railways in the repairing of the bridge.
He said that Pakistan Railways as well as Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) and Sarhad Tourism Corporation (STC) have become silent spectator over the matter.
Zahoor Durrani demanded of both federal and provincial government to come to the rescue of this tourism promotion initiative.
