National Accountability Bureau has asked the Director Investigation, Punjab to submit the final report of a complaint against Bashir Ahmed Mulghani, Divisional Engineer Telephones, Digital Transit, PTCL Multan Telecom region, for his corruption and acquisition of assets beyond his known sources of income.
According to the Complaint No 3499/DD-III/I&I/NAB/2004 Islamabad, Bashir Ahmed Mulghani had three posh houses in 'Y' block of New Multan worth Rs 2.5 million each, a big house in Bararan Town worth Rs 8 million.
He had also purchased 5,475 acres of land against Rs 113 million in the name of his father in 1992 near Taunsa Sharif (Dera Ghazi Khan district).
He got allotted an agency of Yamaha motorcycles in the name of his brother Imtiaz Ahmed with an expenditure of Rs 10 million.
The complaint revealed that Bashir Ahmed Mulghani was posted in Mumtazabad exchange from 1983 to 1988 and he had closed the meters of 370 subscribers, who were cotton/grocery brokers, arhtis, and owners of truck-bus stands. He extorted Rs 20,000 per phone per month.
SDO N.A Chaudhry caught him red-handed on the instructions of General Manager but no action was taken against him because he allegedly bribed them.
N.A Chaudhry said in his report that 370 subscribers paid only line rent for five years during his posting at Mumtazabad exchange.
