The shooting competitions of 9th SAF Games witnessed 31 SAF records tumble, with Indian shooters setting 26 new ones.
Pakistan set three of them while Bangladesh set 2.
Pakistan's star shooter was Rao Muhammad Shafiq who in his maiden international appearance at the games thrilled crowd when he scored 138 points in the Skeet event. The previous best was 133.
In the team event too, Pakistan broke the previous record of 309 when they posted a collective total of 342 points, with Shafiq making a new record by scoring 116 points in the qualifying round as against the previous record of 112.
The increased dominance by the Indians, like in other events of the games, also continued in Shooting.
In the Free Pistol (Men) event, Samresh of India made two new records by scoring 548 and 642.9 points in the qualifying and final contests, respectively against the previous records of 546 and 635.8 points.
In the Air Rifle 3 Position (Men) event, Sajeev Rajput of India came up with 1156 and 1252.4 points in the qualifying and final round of this event, respectively to break the last records of 1130 and 1215.7 points.
India also override the previous SAF record of 3364 points by scoring a total of 3405 points in the team event of this shooting contest.
In the Air Rifle (Men) event, MD Asif of Bangladesh broke the last SAF records of 586 and 688.7 points in the qualifying and final rounds, respectively by collecting 590 and 693.6 points in this competition.
India made a total of 1763 points in the team event of this category to break the previous record of 1745 points.
Jaspal Rana of India made two new SAF records in Rapid Fire Pistol event by scoring 574 and 670.9 points in qualifying and final rounds, respectively, against the previous records of 564 and 658.2 points.
In the team event of this category too, India broke the last record of 1689 points by aggregating 1700 points.
In Trap Shooting event, Zoravar Singh of India netted 121 out 125 and 145 out 150 shots in qualifying and final rounds, respectively, prevailing over the previous 113 and 138 points.
Indian woman shooter, Meena Kumari also came up to mark by obtaining 578 and 678.8 points in the qualifying and final rounds of the Air Rifle 3 Position (Women) event, to break the previous SAF records of 570 and 661.2 points in the same competition.
India amassed 1721 points in toto to make a new SAF record in the team event against the previous 1700 points record.
In the Air Pistol (Men), Ronak Pandit of India set the new SAF records by acquiring 580 and 681.5 points in the initial and final rounds, respectively as compared to the previous record of 578 arid 676.1 points.
India, in the team event of this competition, scored a total of 1725 points to break the last SAF record of 1706 points.
Sushma Rana of India realised two new SAP records in 25m Pistol (Women) event, by obtaining 571 and 673 points in the qualifying and final rounds, respectively as against the last records of 558 and 653.8 points.
In the team event of this category, India aggregated 1669 points to nullify the last SAF record of 1652 points.
In the Center Fire Pistol (Men) event, Jaspal Rana of India earned 582 points in the qualifying round to break the preceding record of 581 pints, with India also setting the new record in the team event of this category by accumulating a total of 1734 points as compared to the previous record of 1724 points.
Raj Kumari of India scored 589 points in the initial round of Prone Rifle (Women) event, to break the last SAF record of 586. India also set a new SAF record in team event of this contest by netting a total of 1751 points as compared to the previous highest of 1745 points.
In the Air Pistol (Women) event, Shweta of India set the new SAF records by securing 381 and 477.5 points in the qualifying and final rounds, respectively as against the last records of 372 and 466.7 points.
Finally, in the team event of Standard Pistol (Men), India equalised the previous record of 1700 points by scoring the same number of points in this category.
