President Pervez Musharraf has summoned the Senate to meet on Friday, primarily to get formal approval for the National Security Council Bill, already approved by the National Assembly on Wednesday.
Official sources said the 11th session was expected to last for a week or so and immediately after the voting on the NSC Bill, it would be prorogued sine die. The opposition in the Senate was yet to decide whether or not to take part in the bill proceedings.
Interestingly, though the Upper House has been called, the government is still silent about naming the Leader of the House in the National Assembly, who will also be part of the 13-member council.
Sources told Business Recorder that the real issue was the establishment of the National Security Council, the opposition leader could be decided any time.
Combined opposition had already rejected the council, saying it would make the armed forces a political party, rendering the Parliament and the parliamentary form of government redundant.
The ruling coalition and the opposition parties would chalk out their strategy in the Parliament House before the session at 10:00 am.
