Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on Sunday announced to appoint textile ministers at federal and Punjab levels for the promotion of the textile sector, contributing greatly to the national economy.
"These ministers will take care of sector from the stage of cultivation of cotton to the production of value-added textile products,' he said while speaking at the collettive marriages ceremony held at Iqbal Stadium here on Sunday afternoon.
Punjab Governor, Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd), Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, Punjab ministers, MNAs, MPAs, District Nazim, Chaudhry Zahid Nazir and leading businessmen from this agro-industrial city were present on this occasion.
Mir Zafarullah Jamali said that Faisalabad's contribution to the national economy in terms of textile production and exports was tremendous. He hoped that this city would soon attain the status of a leading textile center in the world.
He said that Punjab province was a trend-setter and much advanced as compared to other provinces and added that introduction of good steps in this province would be emulated in other parts of the country too.
He said that Punjab had got very able leadership in the form of the Governor, Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd) and Chief Minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.
Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali said that government would take all the necessary steps to resolve the civic amenities related problems confronting the Faisalabad city.
He said that a sum of Rs 200 million had been provided to Faisalabad city for the development works and added that government would allocate more funds.
He said that treatment plants would be set up in this industrial town to help make its industries socially-compliant in the post-WTO situation.
Jamali congratulated the newly wed 125 Muslim and Christian couples and wished them a very happy life in the days to come.
Speaking on this occasion, Punjab Governor, Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd) said that the holding of collective marriages ceremony reflected the spirit of Pakistanis to help each other.
He said that the movement to help poor parents in solemnising the wedding of their daughters was spreading all over the Punjab province.
"There will be another ceremony of collective marriages in Lahore next week, followed by similar events in Layyah and Gujrat," Khalid Maqbool said.
He hoped that there would be no poor family left in the province with their daughters not wed due to financial problems.
He appreciated city's industrialists and businessmen for generously contributing to this effort.
Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said that the provincial government would fully patronise the noble act of collective marriages of girls from the poor strata of the society.
He said that the water and sanitation related projects would be launched in Faisalabad city to help people have access to clean drinking water.
He also praised the philanthropists for contributing to this nobel cause.
Earlier, District, Nazim Faisalabad, Chaudhry Zahid Nazir presented the address of welcome.
Prime Minister, Mir Zafarullah Jamali also handed over the keys of loader motorcycle rickshaws to 10 persons under Micro-Finance Scheme at a ceremony held at Iqbal Stadium here.
Of a total cost of Rs 76,000 of a rickshaw, the beneficiary of the scheme will have to pay Rs 10,000, while Rs 15,000 will be borne by the philanthropists. The remaining Rs 50,000 will be paid by the bank at a low mark up rate of 5 percent.
Earlier, Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali visited the residence of Rajab Ali Baloch and remained with him for about half an hour.
