Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union in a letter to the Privatisation Commission has urged the government not to privatise Wapda as it is against the national interest.
The letter wrote by Secretary General of the Union Khurshid Ahmed, said that privatisation of Wapda would result in increase in power tariff, which is already the highest in the world.
It further said that the Wapda's integrated system is working as a 'national unity', and its break up may result in disputes among the provinces.
The secretary general in the letter also called upon the government not to succumb to the pressure of IMF, World Bank and other world donor agencies as by doing so this national organisation would lose its competitive edge besides giving rise to unemployment.
It was also demanded that the government should raise the wages of the workers keeping in view the price hike of essentials and other items and also restore the facilities, like selection grade, move-over, advance increment facility.
The secretary general in the letter also appealed to the government to repeal the Presidential Order 2002 for Removal of Workers and Industrial Relation Ordinance 2000.
