Federal Petroleum and Natural Resources Minister Nouraiz Shakoor Khan will inaugurate fifth Pakistan geological congress on April 14.
The two-day conference, being jointly organised by the National Geological Society of Pakistan and the Pakistan Museum of Natural History.
About 150 geo-scientists from academic institutions, research and development organisations, experts from mineral and oil industry, planners and senior students will participate in the Congress.
During the two plenary sessions and six technical sessions of the Congress, over 55 research papers will be presented, which will cover various fields of geology, including structure, stratigraphy, sedimentology, economic geology, palaeontology, engineering geology, environment, and petroleum geology.
HDIP Director-General Hilal A. Raza, in his keynote address, will present an overview of development stages of geology in Pakistan titled 'Geology and Pakistan: The Way Forwards.'
Pakistan Science Foundations Chairman Dr Farid A. Malik will preside over the plenary session of 'Realising the Gemstone Potential of Pakistan.'
The second plenary session to be held on April 15 will be on 'New Trends in HRD in Pakistan.' This session to be chaired by Professor Dr Qasim Jan.
Petroleum and Natural Resources Secretary Ahmed Waqar will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony.
