US stocks rose on Monday, led by blue chip companies Exxon Mobil and DuPont Co, as investors anticipated strong earnings at the start of one of the busiest weeks of the quarterly reporting season.
Oil and energy stocks gained as gasoline prices rose in the run-up to the summer driving season, pushed up by worries over fuel specifications and ever-rising US demand.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 73.53 points, or 0.7 percent, to 10,515.56, according to the latest available data. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index climbed 5.91 points, or 0.52 percent, to 1,145.23, and the technology-focused Nasdaq Composite Index rose 12.60 points, or 0.61 percent, to 2,065.48.
