The Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad has asked the Legal Aid Committee of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement to help in maintaining supremacy of law and respect to judicial decisions so that a potent civil society could be established.
The governor was talking to a delegation of the Legal Aid Committee of the MQM, which called on him at the Governor House on Wednesday.
Dr Ibad said that obedience to law and supremacy of social justice were indispensable ingredients of a civilised society. It was, therefore, necessary that all those who were in a position to contribute their share of good work should come forward and help in the building of a healthy society.
He said social welfare organisations and the non-governmental organisations have greater role to play. "They must come forward and we would support them," the governor said.
The Governor said the Legal Aid Committee should look into the cases of those poor who were unable to meet the cost of judicial process and help them.
He said as far as the government was concerned it was doing its best for the eradication of Karo Kari and other crimes but its efforts would be ineffective without the support of the social welfare organisations.
Dr Ibad appreciated the free of charge legal help that the Committee was extending to the needy people.
The members of the LAC said that they were appreciative of the governor's efforts in the direction of eradication of crime and establishment of the rule of law in Sindh.
They said that the manner in which the governor was performing his functions as the constitutional head of the province, there was a general sense of satisfaction among the people of Sindh.
The delegation extended its unconditional support in the fight against crime.
Aftab Ahmed Sheikh, Adviser on Home Affairs, Syed Anwar Haider Additional Chief Secretary, Ghulam Nabi Shah, Provincial Secretary law, and additional advocate general, Kazi Khalid Ali were also present at the meeting.
