Afaq Ahmed, chairman, Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi) was remanded to judicial custody till April 19 by Judicial Magistrate East, Pervaiz-ul-Qadir Memon here on Wednesday.
Earlier investigation police produced him before the magistrate and sought further physical remand of Afaq Ahmed, accused in kidnapping and murder case of one Farooq.
Shamsher Khan advocate, counsel for Afaq and chairman of MQM-H Legal Aid Committee and Khawaja Naveed Ahmed, senior counsel opposed the police request for further physical remand of the accused on ground that prosecution has yet to locate a witness in the case.
The JM perusing the police file and case papers declined the request by police and remanded Afaq Ahmed to jail custody.
The prosecution soon afterwards moved a revision application before District and Sessions Judge East, Zafar Ahmed Khan Sherwani against the said order of sending Afaq to jail.
The DJ East issued notice to counsel for Afaq for Thursday (April 15) in the revision application.
