Women asked to keep balance between career and domestic life

Pakistan's High Commissioner to the UK, Dr Maleeha Lodhi said that working women had to maintain a balance between their career and domestic life.
She told BBC Urdu Coin Service on Tuesday that women had to face more difficulties than men, in their quest to make a career and this was not confined to Pakistani society alone, and added women were either not represented or had less representation even in the West.
Men were occupying higher positions in various walks of life and women had still a long way to go, she further said.
Maleeha said women had achieved progress in many fields in Pakistan and despite stiff opposition they had earned a place for them in the society.
Their participation in various fields of life had increased as compared to the past twenty years and they proved their mettle, yet had to go a long road to progress, she said.
Maleeha said there was no place in the world without a bias against female therefore Pakistan was no different in this respect, and added the biases against women, by and large, were the result of traditions and culture in a society, she said.
Islam does not distinguish between man or woman as for as higher education was concerned, it calls for higher education for all to be able to play an active role in the society.
If women were determined and set their sight on their goal, nothing was impossible, said Maleeha, who had already started making a difference, as an envoy of the country both in terms of expanding bilateral relations between Islamabad and London and in bringing a marked improvement in consular services.
Maleeha said the pursuit of a career and domestic life was possible. It was quite difficult for woman to make a career particularly when she was heading an institution, she said, in such a situation, a woman had not only to prove her capability of doing the job but also to show, she could do it better than men.
Referring to her career as a journalist with a newspaper in Islamabad, Maleeha said, she was elevated to the slot of an editor, only after she took up her case after as she had been performing the duties of an editor for many months.
She said that as an editor, she used to return home at late night and pursuing the profession would not had been possible without the support of her family.
