The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will privatise the amusement parks and the major avenues of the Capital for providing better environment and entertainment to public. For this purpose, it has invited private parties to invest in this sector.
Sources in the CDA environment directorate told Business Recorder that so far, about nine firms from Lahore, Rawalpindi and Islamabad having vast experience in plant nurseries were short-listed.
The Authority would float tenders to parties interested in one or more projects of maintaining Capital's parks, which are planned to be privatised include Rose & Jasmine Garden, Rawal Park, Play Land, Shakar Pariyan Park and Convention Centre along with beautifying road medians.
The CDA environment directorate will award contract to the selected nurseries to maintain grass, bed-surfacing and planting shrubs and saplings in the said parks on the basis of labour cost.
The Authority, however, will perform the duties as monitoring body. It will provide no extra expenses to these private companies for this purpose other than incurring expenditures, sources said, adding the problem of gardening staff shortage will also be resolved through such initiative.
The CDA has also decided to hand over the beautification of the Constitution Avenue, airport and Kashmir Highway to expert companies.
