The government should change tax structure in order to give a proper boost to the industrial sector, which is imperative for a stable and sustainable economy, Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) President Hussain Ahmed Ozgen said here on Wednesday.
Talking to newsmen in the chamber office, the RCCI president said that industries were immediate basis for a country to attain desired goals of socio-economic development. But, he added that the industries needed complete support and co-operation of the government to flourish and play effective role in the economy.
Ozgen while lauding the efforts of the government during the past four years said that economic reforms have helped in restoration of confidence of the industrialists, exporters and foreign investors.
It was necessary that the tax system should be re-drafted in order to facilitate business community to further play their effective role.
"It is unfortunate that the Pakistani products as a result of difficult tax structure, high cost utilities are unable to compete in the international market. It is necessary that power and gas tariffs should be reduced and the duties on raw material should be brought at the lowest ebb," he added.
This, he said, would made the Pakistani products cost effective.
