The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Sindh Kamal Shah on Saturday air-dashed to Sukkur and drove straight to riverine katcha area of Chak (Shikarpur) in the jurisdiction of Bachal Bhayo Police Station, some 30 km from Sukkur.
Police sources said that the IGP was briefed by District Police Officer (DPO) Shikarpur Arif Hanif about the details of the on-going anti-dacoits operation in the vast area along the embankment of Indus river.
The DPO informed IGP that several dozen hideouts of dacoits had been smashed and several notorious outlaws had either been driven away or arrested during encounters with them during the last one week.
IGP Sindh, who afterwards took an aerial view of the area and later flew to Alaf Katcha and Shah Belo areas, directed the police officials to continue the crackdown on dacoits and outlaws till restoration of normalcy.
He said the life and honour of the people should be protected at all costs and assured that provincial government would provide maximum resources to achieve the logical end of the operation.
He also met police Jawans taking part in the operation and praised them for their gallantry.
IGP Sindh, who returned to Circuit House in the evening, also chaired a meeting of district and regional police officials to review the law and order situation of Sukkur region.
