A large number of female commuters especially government and semi-government employees of twin cities have expressed facilitation over the operation of private transport company Varan in different routes of twin-cites and said it has solved their travel problem.
A survey conducted by this agency indicated that Varan tours has facilitated women more than the men as only two seats in the previous transport were reserved for them which they said were insufficient to meet their requirements.
They said that the Varan has solved their problem and now they can travel easily in these buses.
Some commuters were of the view that the big buses were the need of the twin cities of the capital as it would end the monopoly of van-transporters who were humiliating the commuters during the office opening and closing hours.
They said it was very difficult for them to get space in the vans during peak hours and have to wait for hours and they often get to their offices later then the stipulated time.
While the effected transporters were of the view that Varan tours have usurped their rights, which has created panic and disturbance among the transporters as well as their families.
The officials of Muttahida Transport Committee has termed the franchising of routes a cruel and unjust act on the part of Punjab government, which had no legal and moral justification.
They said that due to the franchising of some six routes to a private bus company some 2,346 wagons, mini-buses and Suzukis vans would be made idle while the commuters would also suffer enormously due to monopolising of these routes to a single transport company.
The main franchising routes including 1, 3, 6, 12, 6-A, 12-A, and 21 which are recently franchised by the bus company (Varan Tours).
