The representatives of Lahore Township Industries Association (LTIA) have voiced concern over the nomination of chairman of Quaid-e-Azam Town Board (QATB) to run the affairs of Kot Lakhpat Industrial Estate (KLIE) and demanded of the government for withdrawal of the decision.
Addressing a joint news conference at the local Press Club on Sunday, the Association's senior vice-chairman Nasrullah Mughal, vice-chairman Mubashar Ahmed Malik, former chairman Mian Abu Zar Shad, Khwaja Shahzad Nasir and LCCI executive council member Noman Kabir said the Punjab government has established Punjab Industrial Estate Development Company (PIEDC), which is a right step in the right direction taken by Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi and his Advisor Jehangir Tarin.
"But we understand that a particular group of persons is out to flop this whole project," they added.
They said chairman of the company Mohsin Syed has nominated a person as chairman of the Quaid-e-Azam Town Board to run the affairs of Kot Lakhpat Industrial Estate who is unpopular among the industrial community of the area.
His nomination has been made without approval of the 24 members of the board, they claimed and added that even the Lahore Chamber's Committee on Industry has not been taken into confidence in this regard, which is unfair.
Answering a question they said that the LTIA also sent a letter to chairman PIEDC expressing its reservations about the nomination of the chairman, but it was concealed.
"It is a proven fact that the local people can better run the affairs of the local population but the person, who has been nominated for the slot of chairman of the board, is not even the member of the LTIA. Moreover, he holds Canadian nationality and is hardly available in the country."
"Therefore, we demand the nomination of a new chairman should be made within seven days in consultation with the Association as well as the members of the board," they said.
LTIA members Nadir Kamal, Munir Bhatti and Zaheer Bhutta were also present on the occasion.
