The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ended on April 15, for lowest income group up to Rs 3,000 has registered 0.71 percent decrease over previous week.
The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 115.51 as against 116.34 recorded in the previous week, showing a decrease in the prices of essential kitchen items, according to the federal bureau of statistics (FBS).
The weekly SPI has been computed with revised base 2000-2001 = 100 covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.
During the week average prices of nine items decreased and 17 items increased, while prices of the 27 items remained unchanged.
The average prices of tomatoes, wheat, egg (farm), LPG (11 kg cylinder), wheat flour average quality, gur, rice basmati (broken), masoor pulse washed and vegetable ghee (loose) registered a decreased during the week.
Similarly the average prices of chicken farm, potatoes, grams pulse washed, sugar, lawn, garlic, rice irri-6, bananas, mutton, curd, voil printed, mash pulse washed, onions, milk fresh, beef, vegetable ghee (tin) and moong pulse washed increased during the week under review.
The average prices of the items which remained unchanged during the week ended on April 15, included, bread plain medium size, milk powder (Nido), mustard oil, cooking oil (tin), salt (powdered), tea (packet), tea (prepared), cooked beef (plate), cooked dal (plate), cigarettes K-2, coarse latha, shirting, sandal gents Bata, sandal ladies (Bata), chappal sponge (Bata), kerosene, firewood, electric bulb (60 watts), match box, washing soap (nylon), bath soap (Lifebuoy), gas charges up to 3.3719 MMBTU, electric charges 1-100, petrol, diesel, and telephone charges.
A review of the current prices of the cement collected for the week ended on April 15 indicates a decrease of 0.35 percent as compared to previous week, with a rise of 16.73 percent over corresponding week of the last year.
