Pakistan Council of Scientific and industrial Research (PCSIR) saved Rs 3 billion through local repair of faulty laboratory equipment in different government departments, organisations and industrial units.
PCSIR Chairman, Dr Anwar-ul-Haq told newsman here on Tuesday that 1420 tools and equipment of various organisations in 28 districts, if the province had developed faults through uses, and were lying idle due to non-availability of the qualified staff.
He said, Pakistan Council of Scientific and industrial Research (PCSIR) experts repaired all equipment within a year and ensured that it was fully operational at a total cost of Rs 68.75 million.
If the equipment would have been repaired by the foreign experts, the cost would have come to Rs 700 million, while new machines would have cost Rs 300 billion.
The PCSIR chief said that the Council had also repaired 600 machines of its own at a total cost of Rs 39.72 million, saving about Rs 950 million in the process, while repairs from foreign experts would have cost Rs 300 million, he added.
Dr Anwar-ul-Haq said that technical expertise of every kind was available to the private sector on most economical terms, to provide effective day to day or long term solutions to their problems.
The PCSIR would continue to support local industry in development of the quality products to compete in the international market, he observed.
