Italy's Consul-General Dr Bruno Pasquino has said that he would like to further strengthen socio-cultural and economic relations with Pakistan as both countries have potential for growth in a number of fields of mutual interest.
He was speaking at a luncheon meeting on Tuesday to introduce Italian traveller Piero Ciacchella who started his journey from Venice and is expected to end up in Melbourne in about six months.
The consul general said the conference on marble last month was a success and it had shown a number of other avenues for effective trade and commerce relations. He expressed the hope that the co-operation in all fields of human activities will expand and bring the two peoples closer.
Introducing Ciacchella, Bruno said that "he is a symbol of determination and courage".
Ciacchella is here on an expedition, which started from Venice on March 22 and, after travelling 35,000 km through 14 nations, the journey will culminate in Melbourne in August.
He is travelling solo on a specially prepared Fiat Ducato van.
The route of this (fourth) expedition is Venice to Greece, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, India, Tibet, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and finally Australia (Melbourne). His van has crossed five continents in less than five years.
The spirit behind his expeditions is a fascinating optimism in the positive power of human interaction when it comes to promoting friendship and harmony between people.
It has also originated from the deep rooted desire of Ciacchella to rise to daunting personal challenges, and to understand the different cultures and ways of life he encounters within his experience.
Deputy chief of Italian Mission, Giorgio Biscari, introduced the traveller and said that the amount of courage and endurance Ciacchella had shown was amazing.
