In order to provide swimming facilities to Wapda swimmers, Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) is going to construct a swimming pool here at Wapda Sports Complex.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday a Wapda spokesman said that this project which is being funded through massive donations, would serve the sports community of Lahore, Pakistan Swimming Federation and Pakistan Olympic Association for training and holding national as well as international competitions.
For the construction of this swimming pool, there were two options available with Wapda pertaining to site selection.
Out of the two options pertaining to the site selection, the site along Ferozepur Road was discarded in 2003 due to noisy and polluted environment, high voltage transmission line overhead and partial demolition of the building.
Therefore, the site adjacent to athletic track and Sports Hostel was approved inside Wapda Sports Complex.
The decision to this effect was taken in the Authority meeting held in October 2003 after the detailed presentation made by the appointed consultants.
