Abdullah Hussain Haroon, grandson of Sir Abdullah Haroon, has emphasised the need for collective efforts for the development of education, economic conditions and betterment of the country.
He was speaking as chief guest at a reference organised in memory of Sindhi scholars by the Pakistan Study Centre University of Sindh here on Tuesday.
He said Sindh has not only welcomed everyone, but has also provided enormous opportunities for the betterment of their socio-economic conditions and now it was obligatory upon them to play their role for the development of the province.
Haroon said quality education from lower to higher level was imperative for socioeconomic development of the province and for mitigating the sufferings of the people.
He said it was the need of the hour that we should take basic steps for the development of education to create a healthy society, a society, which could withstand the challenges of the modern world.
He said education did not confine to textbooks alone, but one could enrich his knowledge and wisdom from the behaviour of the society.
He said that the universities as well as educational institutes were a place where one could express freely and discussed challenges posed by the fast moving world.
Referring to information technology, he said that IT was bubble internationally and now e-commerce has taken the place.
He lauded the services of late Allama I.I. Kazi, Allama Ghulam Mustafa Qasimi, Ali Ahmed Brohi and other scholars and said that the present scholars should research the works of great scholars.
He also appreciated the efforts taken by the university for organising such a reference.
Seminar President Dr Rafia Ahmed Shaikh highlighted the services of the prominent personalities.
Dr Noor Afroz Khwaja presented her paper on great philosopher Allama I.I. Kazi, while Professor Afaq Ahmed Siddiqui Dr Habibullah Siddiqui, Dr Abdul Jabbar Abid Leghari, Dr Qamar Jahan Mirza and Professor Nazir Qasimi presented their papers on the life and works of Allama Ghulam Mustafa Qasimi.
Inam Shaikh expressed his views about the personality of late Ali Ahmed Brohi, while Hamid Sindhi highlighted the works of late Shaikh Muhammad Ismail and Mir Nusrat Hussain Abro.
Dr Atiq Ahmed spoke about the sincere and scholarly research work of late Dr Abdul Razak Abro, while Saeed Bux Khalid presented his paper on late Karim Bux Khalid.
Professor Chand Bibi Sultana, Director, Pakistan Study Centre, University of Sindh, highlighted the activities and research work of the centre.
