Sindh Food and Agriculture Minister Arif Mustafa Jatoi paid a surprise visit to Sukkur, Khairpur, Khandiaro and Naushero Feroze to monitor procurement of wheat in Upper Sindh.
A press release of the Sindh food department on Tuesday said a few traders had made complaints to the minister about the non-co-operation of the Food officials in the procurement of wheat.
The minister had warned the erring officials and asked them to perform their functions diligently, saying those caught would be dealt with severity, the press release added.
Arif Mustafa Jatoi said the Sindh government wanted to give maximum benefit to the growers, adding the farmers and growers should get best possible return on their yield.
The minister has said there is no need to limit the movement of wheat, and there is no such restriction on the movement of wheat by the Sindh government.
He said that a group of chawkidars of the food department, who were regularised recently, protested for their posting on his arrival at Naushero Feroze.
He said he had told them that the Sindh Cabinet had already approved the regularisation of 490 chowkidars, and now their cases had been sent to the finance department for budgeting and posting.
He said their services would be regularised soon and payment would be released to them.
