I am pleased to learn that the third International Garment, Textile and Leather Machinery and Accessories and Fabrics Exhibition, "IGATEX Pakistan 2004", is being held once again in Karachi, with the participation of 400 leading textile machinery manufacturers from over 27 countries.
Our government is determined to take all such measures that strengthen Pakistan's economy and enlarge its export base, Whereas, Pakistan enjoys the reputation of being a major producer and exporter of cotton based textile and clothing, we should however not be complacent particularly in 2004 ie the last year of quota restriction on textile exports, who have invested around US $4 Billion in the last four years for modernising and up-grading their textile units to prepare themselves to meet the post quota challenges.
The exposition by IGATEX Pakistan will further expose our exporters to the latest technological advances talking place around the world and help them select the best machineries to increase their competitive edge.
It is through these interactions between the vendors and our exporters that the textile industry can further improve its technological base.
I would like to welcome all the foreign participants to Pakistan and hope that not only their stay would be a pleasant one, but it will prove to be fruitful for them in terms of business as well.
I wish to congratulate the organisers of IGATEX Pakistan and wish them all successes.
