Brazil's 2003/04 (May-April) cocoa arrivals from Bahia, other states and countries rose 9 percent to 3.6 million 60-kg bags by April 18 from a year ago, Bahia Commercial Association said.
Bahia state, Brazil's main cocoa producer, alone delivered 4,181 bags in the week, down from 9,511 bags in the year-earlier week, the association said.
"As has been expected, arrivals from Bahia continue to decline, although part of this may be due to retention of undeclared quantities of cocoa upstate," cocoa analyst Thomas Hartmann said in the weekly report.
He added that arrivals from other states continued very strong, and an outturn of more than 30,000 tonnes for Brazil's 2003/04 crop now seems guaranteed.
Following light rains during ther next two and three days, the weather in Bahia should turn sunny and dry, and stay that way into early next week. Temperatures should hover between 23 and 29 Celsius (73 to 84 Fahrenheit).
Farmgate prices in Bahia continued to follow the terminal, dropping to 59 reais per arroba quoted on Tuesday from last week's 62 reais to mark the lowest since end-November 2003.
