Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) on Friday announced to participate in HSC Part-I and II annual examinations 2004 process in protest and warned that if excesses by activists of an ethnic political party were not stopped, they will not continue their duties.
They also demanded provincial government to provide protection to teachers, performing examinations duties, taking steps for controlling foreign elements' intervention into exam process and announcing strict action against people involved in using unfair means and copy-culture.
These demands were made by SPLA office-bearers Professor Riaz Ahsan and Manzoor Hussain Chishti while addressing a news conference here at a local hotel.
SPLA leaders said people were very much concerned about transparency of intermediate examinations in Karachi, commencing from April 28, 2004 and to satisfy them, a committee comprising Sindh education minister, secretary education, City Nazim, chairman intermediate board and rangers and police officials be set up.
"This committee would be responsible for maintaining law and order at examination centers and to control and check use of unfair means during the examination process," they added.
According to them, retired officers and persons of bad reputation have been appointed in intermediate board while several criminals, having affiliation with an ethnic political party have also been given responsibilities during the forthcoming exams, who are threatening teachers for allowing unfair means during the exams.
They charged that several teachers were subjected to inhuman torture and several others were threatened of dire consequences all over the Sindh by activists of terrorist political group for not allowing candidates to use unfair means during the exam.
They also criticised BIEK for its alleged derogatory behaviour with teachers performing exam duties, its failure to control impersonation cases, use of unfair means and copy-culture.
Fearing that activists of political group, who had support in the board will try to use unfair means in the forthcoming exams and in case if some of them were challenged, they will not hesitate from torturing teachers, SPLA office-bearers demanded government to take steps for holding transparent exams.
"Our members will perform their exam duties by wearing black armbands in protest of what was done with them by hoodlums in Sukkur, Hyderabad and Larkana during exams and if any such incident happen in Karachi, they will boycott exam process", they warned.
