The provincial police chief Muhammad Raffat Pasha has directed the police officers and jawans to perform their duties with a missionary zeal and spirit and ensure protection of life, honour and property of general public at all costs.
He was addressing a police darbar at "Ijaz Shaheed Police Lines" at Dera Ismail Khan on Friday.
It may be recalled that it was the first ever police darbar of any IGP in Dera Ismail Khan after 1990.
The IGP directed the participants of the darbar to maintain sanctity of uniform and never take a step, which will bring bad name to their profession.
He pointed out that the real success of police jawans is to restore the confidence of the people. The IGP directed the police personnel to adopt positive, constructive and sympathetic behaviour with the people.
He said that he would give more respect to those jawans, who could satisfy the people through their performance and good behaviour.
He warned that highhandedness and violence against people would not be tolerated and criminal cases would be registered against those who were found misusing their power.
The IGP held out an assurance that the rights of each and every police jawan would be safeguarded and all promotions and transfers in the force would be made strictly on merit basis. "If any one has any complaint in this regard, he can meet me any time and at any place."
While referring to the problems and difficulties of various police jawans in the darbar, the IGP announced allocation of 30 percent quota for police employees in the next police enlistment on which their sons would be enlisted purely on merit basis.
When a constable pointed out about the anomaly in selection of jawans for short courses, the IGP directed the SSP Dera to constitute a separate selective committee for the purpose so that selection of constables for these short courses could be ensured on merit basis.
The provincial police chief on the demand of another constable regarding establishment of a police public school in D.I. Khan, directed the police high-ups to select a proper and suitable place for this purpose so that work could start with the help of the government and the Police Foundation.
He further informed that special attention would be given to education and medical treatment of police jawans and their families.
The IGP also announced a scholarship for the children of police personnel from the rank of constable to Inspector who will obtain "A" grade marks in various college examinations.
He termed the Shuhada package of the present government for police a milestone and announced that from now onwards heirs of Shuhada would be awarded QPM and PPM on the occasion of the annual passing-out parade at PTC Hangu so that the sacrifices of the Shuhada could be publicly recognised.
The IGP also appreciated the efforts of Dera police personnel made by them in connection with maintaining law and order situation during the last Muharram.
