Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) Punjab during it's raids at the Lahore Airport and surrounding areas has recovered Indian-made 77,250 psychotropic injections, and 7.70 kilograms of heroin, and also smashed two gangs involved in this heinous business.
ANF Punjab Regional Director, Brigadier Ashfaq-ur-Rashid revealed this while addressing a press conference here on Friday.
ANF received an information from its intelligence network abroad that Haji Toufeeq an international drug trafficker was engaged in smuggling of heroin through his carriers who used to swallow the heroin filled capsules for smuggling.
The ANF had closely watched the activities of Haji Toufeeq during which it was revealed that he had different spots at Defence Housing Authority, Model Town K-Block, Eden Heights Jail Road and Shaham Town near Lahore Airport, where he used to carry out his nefarious activities.
The ANF staff during raid at Shaham Town arrested Haji Muhammad Toufeeq along with Jahanzeb Saeed, Ayub Nazir, Muhammad Iqbal, Muhammad Riaz and Najeeb Hidayat and recovered 600 heroin-filled capsules from their possession.
On identification of Haji Toufeeq, 100 capsules were recovered from his DHA residence.
The ANF has recovered 7.70 kilograms of heroin, worth million of rupees in the international market, he added.
Besides, counterfeit currencies including Pak rupee and 1000 US dollar were also recovered from Toufeeq's residence.
It was the first time that a gang of local people has been smashed who used to send heroin abroad through their carriers.
The accused confessed, during interrogation that they had planned to smuggle those heroin filled capsules to Katmandu (Nepal), he maintained.
In another raid, the ANF team has recovered 77,250 psychotropic injections containing 154.500 kilograms intoxicant chemicals, which were being smuggled from Dubai through PK-210.
As many as eight persons including Chaudhry Amanullah, Muhammad Rehman Sher, Ali Ahmad, Muhammad Arif, Qasim Ali, Zahid Pervez, Shahida Nasreen and Shabana were arrested red handed at the Lahore Airport.
During the investigation, the accused confessed that a Customs constable Muhammad Idrees had been facilitating them in getting clearance from the Customs Department.
However, the ringleader of this gang Haji Liaquat, who was a renowned gold smuggler and his son Atiq alias Chanda were succeeded to abscond. On pointing by accused, the ANF team had also arrested Chaudhry Muhammad Arshad, Saqib Butt and Chaudhry Muhammad Idrees.
Brigadier Ashfaq said that smuggling of psychotropic injections into Pakistan had become a challenge for the law enforcing agencies because this injection contained 30-time more efficient as compared with morphine injection.
To a question, he said different courts had awarded death sentence to 57-drug smuggler since 1998. However, not a single accused could be executed due to pending of their appeals in the higher courts.
