Wapda Chairman Tariq Hameed has assured all kind of support to the Alternate Energy Board (AEB) saying that the authority would purchase power produced through alternative sources.
He said that power production through alternative sources was the only way to ensure electrification of far-flung areas in a much inexpensive way.
He said this in a meeting here on Monday with a delegation of AEB, which was led by chairman board Air Marshal Shahid Hamid (Retd).
Brigadier Dr Nasim A Khan, Mohammad Ajmal, Dr SM Bhutta and other officials of the board were also present on the occasion.
AEB Chairman Shahid Hamid and secretary Dr Nasim A Khan gave detailed briefings to the Wapda chairman about the board's previous performance and its future goals.
After briefing the Wapda chairman said that Wapda strongly supported the AEB in its efforts, as the board would bring a revolution by producing solar and wind energy.
Meanwhile, Managing Director Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) Brigadier Tariq Sadozai also sought the assistance of the board to help the corporation meet the electricity requirements in Karachi, which is at present facing shortage of about 1000 MW.
In a briefing to the AEB chairman, he said that linkage of KESC with Hubco Power Plant would take at least two years. In this context, the AEB can render a valuable service to the KESC by producing power through sun heat and wind, which are in abundance in many parts of Sindh province.
The MD KESC warned that the people would continue to face power break downs if the alternative sources of energy were not exploited.
The chairman assured the AEB support to the KESC and said that the board would do the job, which was made mandatory for the board.
