Arbitration Tribunal of the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has declared election 2003-05 of Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMEA) as illegal and invalid.
The tribunal has also ordered that fresh elections to be held at an earliest date under the direct supervision of PFCCI to elect a new PCMEA's body in accordance with the rules and regulations laid down by the Director Trade Organisation (DTO), Government of Pakistan and the Articles of the Association.
The matter was brought to the notice of FPCCI by leading carpet exporters including M/s Usman Ashraf, Irfan Ayub, Shahid Hassan Sheikh and Sohail Shamsher Ali, PCMEA members, which filed an application challenging the entire election process for the year 2003-05.
This close the story of rigged elections held by the incumbent office bearers of the PCMEA in September 2003.
These elections were held in violation of DTO's orders of thoroughly re-scrutinising the voter list in order to exclude the names of bogus voters.
The timing of the election, according to the rival group, was also manipulated so that voter belonging to them could be barred from casting their votes.
