The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President, Mian Anjum Nisar, has described increase in professional tax as unjustifiable.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, he alleged that this year the Excise and Taxation department officials have issued notices of depositing Rs 5000 and in some cases Rs 10,000 per annum professional tax to those who were paying Rs 200 as professional tax. These notices were issued for the last three years tax, he added.
He appealed to the Chief Minister Punjab, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and Provincial Minister for Excise and Taxation that there should not be more than 10 percent increase in the professional tax rates.
He said that former Finance Minister Tariq Hameed had introduced fixed rate of professional tax, which eliminated corruption.
He also said that representatives from private sectors should be consulted during the process of devising tax policies so as to resolve all such issues with consensus.
