Kashmiris living on both sides of the Line of Control in Indian occupied Kashmir and Azad Jammu Kashmir, was observed today (Saturday) to pay tributes to the workers and labourers, who laid down their lives for their rights this day 118 years ago in Chicago in the United States.
Workers across the world observe May 1st to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Chicago workers.
Special May Day rallies, coupled with processions, were staged in all seven districts of Azad Jammu Kashmir - Mirpur, Muzaffarabad, Kotli, Bagh, Rawalakot, Sudhanoti and Bhimbher - to observe the day.
Various organisations of workers and labourers of different private and public sector institutions held special ceremonies to observe the day in a befitting manner.
In Mirpur, the main May Day procession was taken out from View Point near the Quaid-e-Azam Stadium Chowk under the auspices of the Jammu Kashmir Peoples National Party. The procession passed through Mian Mohammad road, Shaheed Chowk and Allama Iqbal Road.
The procession culminated at the Rehman Marriage Hall where speakers addressed the workers rally held exclusively to observe the May Day.
HEAVY RESTRICTIONS: Reports reaching here on Saturday from across the Line of Control spoke of the observance of the May Day by the workers in various parts of Indian occupied Jammu Kashmir in spite of the extraordinary restrictions and ban imposed by the Indian occupation forces over taking out processions and holding rallies to observe the May Day.
The report indicated that despite heavy restrictions and ban, imposed by the puppet state government, Kashmiri workers and labourers of various private and public sector institutions in the occupied valley held rallies and processions to observe the day by violating the prohibitory orders and sanctions.
