Punjab Minister for Information Technology Abdul Aleem Khan has said that an integrated scheme for socio-economic development of labour community will be launched shortly.
Addressing a ceremony organised in connection with the Labour Day at a local hotel on Saturday, he said that the major purpose of government policies was to empower the labour community in economic and social terms.
The minister maintained that the government has given a new dimension to the pro-poor policies and in this regard, he added, a composite agenda has been chalked out for the uplift of workers.
He said that the government has constructed 21 labour colonies in different industrial cities and distributed 24,000 plots and allotted 2200 flats/houses to workers on merit.
EDUCATION: "Free educational facilities are being provided to more than 17,000 students in 22 different workers welfare schools," he said, adding, "students are also being given free computer literacy in 15 of these schools."
He maintained that reserved seats for labourers and peasants in Local Government system has helped the working classes to equally contribute to the decision-making process and protect their professional interests at the grass roots level.
Advisor to the Punjab Chief Minister on Law and Human Rights Rana Ejaz Ahmad Khan said that the dream of industrial revolution could not be materialised without improving the lot of working classes.
He said that workers were the backbone of economy and betterment of the working classes should be given top priority.
