Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has said that the government would extend all possible assistance required for the promotion of gems and jewellery sector.
In a message for Gems and Jewels Watches and Tools International Exhibition, which was in progress in Lahore, the Prime Minister said that Almighty Allah has blessed Pakistan with immense natural and human resources.
"However, we need to optimally utilise these resources and channelise them to further strengthen our economy," he added.
According to him, gem and jewellery sector is one of the most value-added and export-oriented sectors of the mines industry in Pakistan.
The government is making all efforts to enhance exports by formulating export-friendly policies and creating export culture in Pakistan.
He urged the manufacturers and exporters of this sector to gear up their resources and augment production to increase exports.
"I am confident that they would be able to meet the oncoming challenges of WTO regime through production of high quality latest designed production," he added.
Gems and Jewels Watches and Tools International Exhibition is currently holding a three-day exhibition in Lahore.
Around 60 local companies and a number of foreign companies from Germany, England and Italy have set up their stalls in the exhibition. A large number of people were seen in the exhibition, which would end on May 2.
Punjab Tourism Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal would be the chief guest in the concluding ceremony of the exhibition.
While talking to Business Recorder, Ijaz Tufail of Gem and Jewellery Association said that this sector has great potential for exports, thus the government must facilitate the jewellery exporters. Private-public partnership in this regard could yield excellent export results, he observed.
