With the return of Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali, political activity in the Federal Capital has dramatically picked up, as politicians from different shades held talks.
Within 24 hours of his return, the Prime Minister met PML President Shujaat Hussain, twice, to discuss reports spreading political uncertainty, sources told Business Recorder here on Saturday.
Minister for Food and Agriculture Yar Mohammad Rind hosted lunch for Shujaat and National Alliance leader Farooq Leghari. Leghari's son Awais was also present, among others.
Leghari's residence at Embassy Road also witnessed hectic political activity. Several politicians had lengthy discussions on current situation and future options.
These meetings were a prelude to Sunday's unification meeting of five Muslim League factions and Sindh Democratic Alliance. Prime Minister Jamali has summoned the League factions' heads to finalise unification.
The meeting between Shujaat and Leghari was the first after National Alliance announced to unite with the ruling Muslim League.
Talking with newsmen, Leghari asserted that there was no danger to Prime Minister Jamali as his policies "are in continuation with" President Musharraf's agenda.
"Therefore, I don't think there is any danger to the Jamali government," he added.
Denying reports, he said that he was not desirous of any slot in the government, and added that the decision to join hands with the League was aimed at strengthening the democratic institutions.
He made it clear that Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi was taken into confidence on the decision. During the meeting, he said, both sides reiterated their pledge to consolidate the democratic process and defeat the vested interests trying to derail the system.
