The livestock traders of Sindh and Punjab held a protest demonstration in front of the local Press Club on Monday against Taluka Nazims for extra recovery of taxes on animals.
The demonstration was led by president of Livestock Traders Association of Sindh and Punjab Baloch Khan Lashari.
The leaders, including Abdul Latif Qureshi, Banqal Khan Mari, Asghar Bhand, Miandad Shanbhani and Haji Rana, drew attention of the Sindh Chief Minister, his advisor for Local Bodies and provincial chief secretary towards the recovery of taxes in cattle markets in the province.
They said, "the taxes in these markets are much more than the schedule of sanctioned rates." They said the government rate was rupees three per animal but the contractor was charging Rs 30 and Rs 50 on cow and buffalo.
They alleged on refusal the cattle owners were beaten by the contractors' men in collusion with police. They said, "to hide their corruption the contractors do not issue them receipts."
They said: "The Nazims of Talukas are involved in this corruption and high handedness as Nazims themselves or their close relatives are the contractors".
