Sindh Workers Welfare Board (SWWB) is gearing up its activities for education of workers' children and very soon they will get institution for higher education also.
Sindh Minister for Labour and Transport, Mohammad Adil Siddiqui has said this as chief guest, while inaugurating a model school in New Karachi here on Monday.
The Minister said that a college had already started functioning in Kotri, while Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (Sessi) had started planning for establishing a medical college for which Rs 5 million had been earmarked.
He disclosed that 50 percent seats in this college would be reserved for workers' children, and this would be a joint project of SWWB and Sessi.
Adil Siddiqi told the gathering that medical facilities at Sessi hospitals had not only improved but also Cardiac and Neuro departments had been added.
He said such institution for technical education would also be set-up on priority basis.
Announcing the enhanced facilities under workers welfare scheme, he informed that from now onward workers' daughters would receive marriage grant of Rs 30,000 as against previous Rs 15,000 for only two daughters.
He said that 100,0000 new workers were brought under social cover last year, but he still wanted all workers in Sindh to receive social security benefits and invited sincere attention of employers in this regard.
The Minister advised the teachers of workers model schools to work with dedication for better future of their students.
He appreciated the environment and quality of construction of labour colony in Mirpurkhas, and called for upgrading the infrastructure of other labour colonies in the province.
Earlier, Secretary Labour Raja Mohammad Abbas, in his welcome address, said that Labour and Industries department had been working for educational and health facilities for workers on priority basis as per minister's directive.
He said this was the third school being inaugurated here in Karachi and 8th in the Sindh.
He informed that this school would accommodate 1200 students, who would get free education along with textbooks, uniform, shoes and school bags.
He said provision of industrial homes, vocational training and teacher training facilities were under consideration of the governments.
MPA Bilquis Mukhtar and SWWB member Qamoos Gul Khatak and Mazharul Haq also spoke on the occasion.
