China, the world's top soyabean buyer, has suspended soyabean imports from four suppliers in Brazil after harmful chemicals were found in shipments late in April, a quarantine bureau official said on Wednesday.
"We've already stopped the imports because we found some chemicals in the soyabeans. If these soyabeans are crushed to oil and consumed by humans, that will be really harmful," the official from the quarantine bureau told Reuters.
"They've seriously violated our regulations on the quality of imported soyabean," he said by telephone from Beijing. The four suppliers were Noble, Cargill, Irma Trevisan S/A-IND.
