In pursuance of decision of Board of Management of the Lahore General Hospital (LGH), the Pharmax, a pharmacy situated in the premises of the hospital has been dispossessed.
It is pertinent to mention here that Pharmax was introduced during the regime of Pakistan People's Party. It was a long-standing demand of the Pakistan Chemists Retailers Association that Pharmax should be dispossessed from the hospital premises.
The hospital administration, during the same regime, had allowed Pharmax to pay only Rs 500 as monthly rent, which was later enhanced to Rs 40,000 during 2001.
The administration rented out the premises at a monthly rent of Rs 120,000 per month to a private medical store, which would provide medicines at competitive cost to the patients.
Professor Dr Syed Ali Ajwad Shah said on the occasion that the hospital administration took this step in line with the government policy.
As a result, the hospital would be able to receive monetary benefits while patients would receive standard medicines at cheaper rates, he added.
