Karachi Cement Dealer Action Committee has urged the government to announce incentives for the import of cement to reduce local prices and break the cartel of cement producers.
Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club on Friday, convener of the committee Shaukat Husain urged the government to ask state cement factories to sell cement directly to genuine dealers instead of benefiting the privileged sole distributor to avoid profiteering.
He said only few privileged persons were reaping benefit of cement business and prices were soaring high in the country.
He claimed that the ex-factory price of cement bag of 50 kilo can be Rs 198 if the rebate of Rs 350 per ton and freight subsidy of Rs 23 per ton allowed to the present sole distributor of state cement is withdrawn.
