"Ruling party, budget and policy-makers must learn a lesson from Indian elections and they will have to prepare policy for uplift of poor and middle income group to win the next elections," said Mehmood Sham, Editor, daily Jang.
Speaking as chief guest at a seminar on "Role of Industry in Poverty Alleviation" organised by Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (Kati), he attributed BJP defeat in Indian election to its policy towards economic uplift of the country which have done everything to boost trade and industrialisation but done nothing for poor and middle income group.
He said that Indian economy policies are good but they have failed miserably to benefit common man. Its slogan "India shining" also failed to gain support of general public.
He said that in Pakistan policy-makers are doing their best to boost industrialisation, attract foreign investment, increase exports and providing all kind of facilities to business community. On the other hand miseries of general people are increasing day by day.
Mehmood Sham noted that policies-markers are rich people, they prepare policies while sitting in air-conditioned rooms, attend seminars in five-star hotels and they have no concept of problems of general public.
He challenged federal finance minister and invited him to prepare budget of those people getting Rs 5000 or less per month as to how they should meet their day to day requirement.
He also criticised feudal lords of the country and said that the country has all the resources but they are creating hindrances in its utilisation.
He advised the industrialists to take active part in politics so that they should have their role or voice in policy-making.
He also advised the business community to prepare themselves for meeting challenges of WTO.
Speaking on the occasion Waseem Akhter, Adviser to Chief Minister Sindh for Local Government, admitted that the funds allocated for development work, poverty alleviation and other uplift projects are not judiciously utilised.
He said that nothing has been done for poverty alleviation in the country due to which we are standing at the same place from where we have started our journey for poverty alleviation.
He pleaded against feudal lords and said that they are only two present in the country but dominate in policy-making. Their role must to curtailed, he added.
He noted that Pakistan have enough resources of oil, mineral, etc but these feudal lords did not allow their full excavation and creating problems for oil exploration and development of Gwadar port.
Welcoming the guests, Mian Zahid Hussain, Chairman, Kati, urged the government to provide risk guarantees to foreign investors so that they have no objection in investment.
He said that mass industrialisation is the only solution to create jobs in the country.
