M/s Armeda, in collaboration with CDGK, will construct 30 model pedestrian bridges on various busy thoroughfares of the city.
The EDO, Transport and Communication, CDGK, Tahir Soomro and Irfan Hashmi of M/s Armeda signed an agreement on Thursday In this connection.
According to the terms of the agreement all these bridges will be constructed on Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis and CDGK will not bear any of the expenses incurred on the project.
The first of these bridges will be built at Gulshan-e-Iqbal, near Urdu Science College, the installation work of which is already being undertaken and estimated to be completed within a month.
While, the work on rest of the proposed bridges will be initiated within next three months and completed in two years.
The areas, where these bridges have been proposed, include Shahrah-e-Faisal at Lalkcothi Stop, Mohammad Ali Jinnah Road at Capri Cinema, Shahrah-e-Quaideen at Mazar-e-Quaid gate, National Highway at Wireless Gate, Shershah Soori Road at Golden Gate, University Road at Old Sabzi Mandi, Hub River Road at Mahajir Camp No 31/2, Ghas Bandar, National Highway at Chotta Gate, N S Ali Khan Road at Inquiry Office, Shahrah-e-Pakistan at Naseerabad, Hakeem Ibne Seena Road at Liaquatabad No 4, M T Khan Road at old Haji Camp, University Road at Edhi Centre, Shahrah-e-Faisal at Drigh Road Railway Station.
University Road at Mumtaz Manzil, University Road at Urdu College, Sherhah Soori Road at 2-K Bus Stop, Hakeem Ibne Seena Road at Nazimabad No 2, Maripur Road at Lyari Railway Station, Bahzad Lakhnavi Road at Shadman Town, Shahrah-e-Faisal at Pir Bukhari, Rashid Minhas Road at Aladdin Park Gate.
Nawab Siddique Ali Khan Road at Nazimabad No 6, Super Highway at Al-Asif Square, Shahrah-e-Pakistan near Jammat Khana, Maripur Road at Wazir Mansion Railway Station and State Revenue at EM Oil Mills.
According to the Traffic Engineering Bureau of CDGK, the construction of these bridges would bring up to 80 percent reduction in accident rate of the city.
