Federal Cabinet has taken an 'excellent step' by deciding to reduce the electricity charges, however, the decision should be implemented at the earliest.
Irfan Qaiser, Convener Standing Committee of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Customs, Tariff and Valuation, expressed these views here on Friday.
He further said that the cut in power tariff should be for all the consumers across the board. "Electricity is considered one of the raw materials in industrial production and its provision to domestic industry on cheaper rates would help our industry to remain competitive and maintain its share in the world market, especially in post-WTO regime," he added.
According to him, it was encouraging to see that the government is seriously striving to boost export, but it should also take necessary steps to bring down the cost of production in Pakistan to make Pak items more competitive in the international market.
