The First Bench of the Federal Shariat Court (FSC) will resume hearings into the compatibility of several federal laws with the Islamic jurisprudence when it opens its June session from Monday.
The First Bench is composed of Chief Justice Ejaz Yousaf, Justice Allama Dr Fida Mohammad Khan and Justice Saeed-ur-Farrukh.
The first case to come up a challenge to the validity of the laws relating to the imprisonment and the current Jail Manual. The petitions are on the agenda of the FSC since last year and were partly heard by the judges when they had not moved to the new premises opposite the Pakistan Supreme Court at the Constitution Avenue.
The next case seeks determination if the four-year-old law restricting display of ostentation and curtailment of wasteful expenses reflected the practice of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and was in consonance with Islam.
Besides, nine Shariat petitions challenging various sections of laws governing various universities are fixed for June 3.
The FSC has already issued notices to the federal and provincial law officers and also the counsel for the parties.
