A total number of 31 couples belonging to poor strata of society were joined in wedlock in a simple but impressive ceremony at Aiwan-e-Iqbal Lahore, on Sunday.
This was fourth such ceremony that was held under the direct supervision of Governor of Punjab Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd) in the provincial capital till date.
Underneath the success of these marriage functions held throughout the province is the personality of Governor Maqbool a God fearing a spiritual man who in fact is the brainchild of all such activities.
Governor speaking on the occasion said that that arrangement of marriages of daughters of self respecting but people of less finances has always been a tradition in the Islamic social fibre since long.
Khalid said that there has been a development in pace of providing small loans to unemployed youth in the province. Not naming a philanthropist as requested by him, the Governor told that he recently donated rupees half a million in Micro Credit Fund.
Maqbool appealed to economically viable to donate to Punjab Human Rights Commission on the occasion. Chaudhry Taj Ali a Pakistani philanthropist from Glasgow donated rupees half a million to the fund on appeal of the Governor during the ceremony. A large number of persons including wives of dignitaries were present on the occasion.
