President Pervez Musharraf on Monday called former Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to discuss progress in peace efforts as a war of words erupted with India's new government.
"Both of them felt strongly that the peace process must be carried forward and the steps taken by the two sides for ensuring the atmosphere congenial for peace talks should be continued," Vajpayee's spokesman Ashok Tandon said.
"Unnecessary statements from both sides should be avoided," he said, adding that the talks lasted around 15 minutes.
