The rupee on Tuesday lost five paisa in relation to dollar in the interbank market for buying and selling at Rs 57.73 and Rs 57.75, respectively, on increased demand for the greenback, dealers said.
Year-end payments did not allow the rupee to sustain its steadier trend in terms of dollar, currency experts said.
In the coming days, the rupee is likely to continue its slide on banks' continued dollars demand for payments, they added.
The dollar held its firmness versus the yen in the international markets, they said.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee shed five paisa in relation to euro for buying and selling at Rs 70.75 and Rs 71.05, dealers said.
The rupee extended its overnight weakness, falling seven paisa versus dollar for buying and selling at Rs 58.30 and Rs 58.40 on excessive buying of dollars by interbank market, moneychangers said.
